"Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, the President of Iran, has gained attention in the West because of his defiance of the United Nations and his outrageous statements. However, he actually has little power. 'He does not control Iran's nuclear program, its military, or its foreign policy.' says Mohamad Bazzi, a visiting fellow at the Council on Foreign Relations (CFR). 'If Iran's parliament passes a bill, it still does not become law, because the supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, and the 12-member Guardian Council of religious leaders can veto anything the elected government does.'"
